Will the broom stand by itself on March 21st?

The theory believes that a broom can stand up straight by itself on March 21st because of the planetary alignment. So is it a myth?

So if I was Ms. Frizzle and I had the magic that she did, of course we would be jumping on the magic school bus and going into space on March 21st just see what is going on. However, the internet Google search will have to do it justice until my magic school bus is invented. :)

This is an article written by David Emery called "How to Stand a Broom on End on the Equinox (or Any Other Day of the Year, for That Matter)". This article explains how brooms can stand on its however it is a trick and not some crazy planetary alignment of the earth helping it stand it on. David also talks about the egg trick as well.
